Wickliffe Receives Laketran’s First Smart Growth Award
Published: Friday, December 19, 2008Laketran trustees presented the agency’s first Smart Growth Award to the City of Wickliffe at the Laketran Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, December 12, 2008. Wickliffe was recognized for its continuous efforts to enhance the livability of the city through actions that promote access to public transportation.
Smart Growth principles focus on pedestrian access, safety and the increased use of public transit as a primary means of travel. The presentation cited examples of Wickliffe’s actions that supported the recognition including:
- Being the first city to install Laketran Ride Guides – point-of-use information guides for riders.
- Building a new senior center with access to local fixed route to enhance senior mobility and independence.
- Providing pedestrian and transit access to Jindra Park and Fitness Track to promote healthy lifestyles for citizens of all ages.
- Being home to Laketran’s second-largest Park-n-Ride lot, a private-public land partnership with the Lubrizol Corporation.
- Offering transfer points to Cleveland RTA for regional transit coordination.
The award was presented by J. Terrell Dillard, president of the Laketran Board of Trustees to Thomas Ruffner, mayor of the City of Wickliffe.
